February 23, 2009 “The first charter of the season is only days away. This charter will shuttle some important people to the villages a little south from Prince Rupert where they have business to conduct. Fortunately for us, that means there will be some down time for the boat while we are waiting for their meetings to finish. This will provide a great opportunity to fish some new spots that I have been drooling over this winter. Finally we are coming out of the winter freeze, and back into serious fishing!” - Capt. Saltwater Deep Sea Fishing Vessel “Blackfeather”

The Blackfeather was purchased new in 2008 for our charter operation. It is a Boston Whaler 255 Conquest, powered by twin Mercury 150 HP Verado outboard engines. The boat is 27 feet long and nearly 9 feet wide and was certified to current 2009 Transport Canada Standards, and continues to meet all Transport Canada Standards.

The trolling setup includes an independent, custom hydraulic stern helm which controls a Mercury 9.9 HP high thrust outboard. This allows your guide to have complete access to the two Scotty downriggers and gear while operating the vessel.

The Blackfeather is equipped with an on-board toilet and sink, and also seats four passengers very comfortably. The electronics include a Furuno radar, two DSC VHF radios, Northstar 6000i GPS/Sounder/Chart plotter, Sirius Satellite stereo, and a Scotty Black Box positive voltage control and the Mercury Smart-Craft display.

Our fishing gear includes manufacturers like Scotty downriggers, Shimano, Okuma, Fenwick rods, Owner and Gamakatsu hooks. Although the nature of fishing means sometimes the fish get away, we believe that should not happen due to faulty or poor quality equipment, and we use only the finest quality tackle on the market.

We are proud to maintain the highest level of safety provisions for our guests. The vessel is outfitted with certified lifesaving floatation vests, flares, first-aid supplies, fire protection and detection equipment and gas detectors. The reputation that Boston Whaler has earned is the “Unsinkable Legend”. While many manufacturers will say their vessels will float if swamped, Boston Whaler vessels are designed to float level and discharge any contained water. The safety of our passengers is our first priority, and was the main reason why we chose the Boston Whaler 255 Conquest to carry our guests.
